What to expect....

Making an appointment to visit a counsellor is a big step and can feel daunting; I know this from personal experience. For many people it is fear of the unknown that makes visiting a counsellor difficult; I hope to make the experience as comfortable and 'safe' as possible for all my clients.

 

Finding the right counsellor is paramount to the 'success' of the work. For this reason the first time we meet is considered an assessment session for you to decide whether counselling is the right step for you and specifically whether I am the right person for you.

 

I can talk you through the way I work and this offers a chance for you to ask me questions around this if you wish. We will also talk about the counselling process, touching on issues around confidentiality and, importantly, what you would like to acheive from coming to counselling.

 

There is no obligation to come to any other sessions following this assessment - indeed, I encourage my clients to take time to consider this before we put any other dates in the diary.

 

My aim as a counsellor is to build a relationship with you, my client, that reflects your individual nature and personality and is pitched at a pace that suits you. Having a regular time and space within which difficulties can be safely and openly explored without fear of judgement, criticism or embarrassment can be the key to enabling change and development and I always hold these values at the centre of my counselling work.

 

If you decide I am the right counsellor for you, we would aim to meet weekly, ideally at the same time each week. I can work in both a short term, solution focused way and also in a more open ended way, depending on individual needs.
